It's been said that Apple would introduce a revamped Mac mini along with the latest iPhones, MacBooks, iPads and AirPods in the next couple of months, among other products.
Several of the anticipated specifications for the gadget were revealed by Bloomberg's Mark Gurman in his Power On newsletter on Sunday, which you can read here.
According to Gurman, the new Mac mini will be equipped with Apple's forthcoming M1X CPU - the same chip that will be used in the company's next MacBooks. As well as additional ports than the present model, it will feature a different design from the existing model.
The Mac mini was one of the first Apple computers to be equipped with Apple's proprietary M1 processor. While it was lauded for being both quick and quiet, it was also criticized for having a limited number of connections (it only featured two USB-C ports, one HDMI port, and a headphone jack), as well as the fact that it couldn't handle more than 16GB of RAM like other M1 machines. It also only supported two displays at a time, and even then, one had to be connected through Thunderbolt and the other via HDMI to function properly. Hopefully, these problems will be addressed in the new version that will be released this autumn.
According to Gurman, the introduction of the new Mac mini with the M1X CPU also signals the end of the Mac mini with an Intel processor, which is still available in Apple's product range.
Apple has not said when the new Mac mini will be released, thus it is still unknown when the device will be released. According to Gurman, the firm will host another Apple silicon-focused event in the "coming few months," and MacRumors speculates that the company will stage another Apple silicon-focused event, similar to the one held last November.
