How to Prevent Your Google App from Crashing on Android

The most recent Google app update, version 12.23.16.23, has been found to be unreliable. A large number of customers have reported that the app fails every few minutes on their Pixel, Motorola, and Samsung smartphones. Given that the app handles everything from Google search to Google lens to the "Discover" feed and interacts with Android Auto, Google Podcasts, and Google Assistant, none of which will function correctly if your device is infected, this is a significant concern.

A problem as severe as this would normally be discovered before an update is sent to the stable channel, but for some reason testers did not experience it during the beta phase, and it was able to sneak through the cracks. The good news is that there are two options for fixing the problem: you can either opt into the Google app beta and download an early version of patch 12.24, or you may roll back to a prior stable version of the Google application. However, there are certain limitations to both fixes. As we've previously said, beta software may bring unexpected bugs and stability problems, and reverting to a prior version of the Google app will require some minor device maintenance. Examples include deleting all episodes from Google Podcasts and re-configuring Google Assistant on your device. If none of these options appeals to you and you're prepared to put up with a few more days of crashes, the 12.24 patch will be released via the stable channel in the near future, according to Microsoft. Fortunately, downloading the stable version will not need any changes to your Google Assistant, Google Podcasts, or other applications once they have been installed.

However, if you're fed up and want to solve the Google app issue right away, you may try one of the following solutions. The decision on whether technique is best for you is entirely up to you, but here's how to do them both effectively:

How to Participate in the Google App Beta Program:

  • Go to the Google app's beta program website for more information.

  • Continue to the bottom of the page and click "Join." It is possible to do this task on your phone or on your computer.

  • Launch the Google Play application on your smartphone.

  • Go to Manage apps & devices > Manage devices > Manage apps & devices, then tap your Google Account profile. View the most recent updates > There are new updates available > Keep an eye out for updates.

  • Locate the Google App and press the "Update" button. Wait for the update to complete its installation.

Notably, if you choose to leave the Beta version of the Google app and return to the stable version, the updates will be uninstalled in the same way, and you will have to reconfigure Google Assistant if you want to exit the Beta version again after the remedy has been implemented.

Remove the faulty Google app update from your computer:

  • Navigate to Apps & notifications > Notifications in the Settings app on your Android smartphone. See all of the applications

  • Locate and choose the Google application from the list.

  • Select “Uninstall updates” from the drop-down menu that appears when you tap the three-dot button in the top right.

  • Allow for the completion of the procedure. Once that is completed, you'll need to re-install Google Assistant and re-download your Google Podcasts collection to complete the process.
